Bell & Ross BR 05 Chrono Green Steel The big, bold integrated chronograph gets new vibrant colours.

Launched in 2019, the BR 05 collection marks an important step in the history of a brand usually focused on military and action-driven watches. Although sharing several design elements with other Bell & Ross models, notably the classic BR 03 instrument with its "square-in-a-circle" shape, it was more urban-oriented than designed for the battlefield. The brand started out with time and date versions, later with a big, bold chronograph, and now in a vibrant new hue, the BR 05 Chrono Green Steel.

The BR 05 Chrono respects most of the codes of the collection, the Parisian brand's vision of a luxury sports watch with a monolithic design. However, given its complexity, it adds a certain amount of sportiness and has a bit more size. The base retains B&R's classic design, and the square case is secured by 4 functional screws with a perfectly round dial hole in the middle. Compared to Bellamich and Rosillo's iconic watch, the BR 03, its design is softer and integrated within a consistently shaped middle case that follows the lines of the steel bracelet - the classic code for the category.

While the time and date version is relatively compact and slim, the BR 05 Chrono is bolder. It features a 42mm case, a solid steel block, and is 14.2mm thick. Finishes are exquisite, with satin-brushed or polished surfaces, chiseled, and a plethora of bright bevels that enliven this sturdy case. Featuring a screw-down crown protected by side guards, and beautifully integrated rectangular pushers, it is water resistant to 100m and has sapphire crystal glass on both sides.

Available in black, dark blue, white (limited edition) or a version that pays homage to the work with the Alpine F1 team, now in a vibrant green hue. The BR 05 Chrono Green Steel watch features an emerald green dial with a sunburst brushed effect, with small counters that mimic the shape of the case and are surrounded by a silver rail. The hands and hour markers are in polished metal filled with white luminous material, and the inner flange has a 60-minute track. The reason is simple; Bell & Ross changed the movement. Previously powered by the modular BR-CAL.301 based on the ETA 2894-2, it is now powered by the BR-CAL.326 movement. Through the sapphire crystal back, the origin of the movement is clear at a glance. It is based on the Sellita SW510, which itself is an evolution of the Valjoux 7753 architecture. As a result, it's moved from a modular structure to an integrated design, and the power reserve has been beefed up, now at a steady 60 hours.
